Nottingham School Asbestos Removal

Nottingham

Brief

We received an enquiry from a school to deal with their issues of asbestos around Easter time, we priced this job which was then delayed due to Covid-19 and schools being completely shut down.

The job is 2 floor ducts which comes under confirm space. The removal of asbestos from the first duct went smoothly with no problems, however the second one was a challenge.

Due to the nature of this building and where the floor duct was, it was a small confined space which required a specials work certificate. In the second floor duct the pipe seemed to have a little bit of water leaking, when we returned it seemed to get worse. Our team had to continue to pump it out in to containers and take it away.

As the problem got worse, we had to have access to an escape tripod in case of emergency due to the such small space the work was in.

We made a decision to ask the school to turn the water off completely so the flooding would stop, and continued to take the water away and returning. The biggest challenge was we didn't know if the water was contaminated with asbestos, so as a precaution we pumped it in to containers which were protected.

Our team worked extremely hard to keep this important place as safe as possible for both the area we were working in and our asbestos removal team on the job.
