Listed Builing Asbestos Removal & Survey In Derbyshire

Derbyshire

Brief

A well known burger chain recently scouted an ideal venue for their newest restaurant– a Grade II Listed building in Derbyshire. After the initial refurbishment and demolition survey, it was brought to our attention that a number of building materials used were ACMs including Chrysotile, textured coating and asbestos cement. ICE were contracted to carry out the removal of insulation to pipework in the basement, textured ceilings throughout as well as an environmental clean to minimise the exposure of asbestos prior to refurbishment works. Due to the sensitivity of the building, extra care had to be taken as not to damage any fixtures or fittings within the former Church.

Solution / Action Taken

Day one of the removal process was to set up the DCU and remove some old fittings from the area. When two other asbestos removal operatives joined those already on site, the enclosure was set up and secured ready for removal the next day.

Day two involved site visits from external auditors to check compliance, and health and safety measures in the form of smoke tests. The removal and environmental clean was completed by the end of the day with minimal snagging to be completed the following morning.

When the consignment notes arrived on site, it was left tidy and secure for the deconstruction of the enclosure.

Impact

The client now has a safe working environment ready for the major refurbishment works required by the restaurant chain. While asbestos removals can be quite invasive, we were careful to follow guidelines from the English Heritage as to preserve items with an historical background.

Client Feedback

Our main objective was to have a safe and healthy site, without damaging the property. We’d like to thank ICE Asbestos for their diligence in helping us achieve this.
