Asbestos Removal at a Nottinghamshire Academy
Nottinghamshire
Brief
We received an enquiry from a nationwide company who have an office branch in Nottingham, to price a job at an academy in Nottinghamshire. We went on to price this and won the job and were able to carry out the works.
The contract was a science block within the academy which was being refurbished and brought completely back to life.
The academy is a clasp building which means there is asbestos throughout.
Our work was to go onto site and remove designated asbestos insulation boarding to walls and columns, and encapsulate areas using ET150 solution that were not being removed as requested by the Client.
The client carried out a pre clean to remove any items that did not come into contact with the asbestos, including gas pipes, benches and furnishings
Solution / Action Taken
Our work was carried out within negative pressure enclosures, in various areas throughout the first floor.
The inside of the enclosure has to be visible to the site supervisor who is outside the enclosure along with any visitors to site i.e.: Health and Safety Inspectors and external auditors. This is done by either using Perspex viewing panels which are attached to the enclosure wall or CCTV cameras which are located inside the enclosure with a monitor outside the work area.
Clasp buildings are known to be hard to work in, as there can be asbestos located in many areas that are not visible during even the most extensive asbestos survey
We had a unannounced audit carried out by our Trade association ACAD, who scored the site at 100%.
Our Client’s Health and Safety Manager also visited the site and was very pleased with the site set up and work being carried out.
Well done to the team on site!
