An Old Mill
Nottingham
Brief
We received an enquiry from an old mill site as building work was underway.
An asbestos refurbishment survey had been carried out and asbestos insulation debris was found to the floor area in the boiler room following the boiler removal.
We successfully won the contract to carry out an environmental clean of the boiler room.
Solution / Action Taken
ICE Asbestos work to conditions set out under our asbestos licence, issued by the Health and Safety Executive to ensure that we control the asbestos fibre release during our works
This was a relatively small job, taking around 3 days, but we still adhere to strict guidelines to ensure that our work is carried out to the highest safety standards under fully controlled conditions, under negative pressure
On the first day we set up the work area, using direct connection to an operating decontamination unit to prevent the transiting of operatives on site
The asbestos installation debris was found in the soil to the floor, therefore we had to remove all contaminated soil down to the brick below. This was carried out by wetting the contaminated soil and shovelling the waste into asbestos waste bags
The waste was transited through the bag lock to the segregated waste vehicle, which was parked alongside the decontamination unit
Following the floor clearance, the walls were sprayed with a diluted surfactant and wire brushed to ensure there was no debris present
The floor area then had a final clean before the enclosure was handed over to the independent analyst for a thorough four stage clearance
Once the air clearance was issued the work area was deconstructed and the building was handed over to the Client
